Shortening a curtain

Updated: Jul 19

I found this curtain at a thrift shop (before lockdown) and it happened to be a good fit for the kitchen window. The only problem was, it was too long.

This is what it looked like before.

I folded it in half so I could have an accurate cut that would be straight across the bottom.

Then I pulled out the measuring tape and selected my desired length. It was to be approximately 4 feet.

I left room for the hem.

Using a rotary tool and cutting board, I cut a straight line.

Adding clips to secure the first part of the hem to conceal the fabrics edges.

Next, it will get folded over again but this time, it will be a bit of a thicker fold. I wanted the bottom to have a couple inches for some weight.

A flower stitch was used but because the thread is the same color, it didn’t work out as planned.

But, here is the finished result.

Thanks so much for reading my post. I hope it inspires you to try it.
